A pretty botanical print by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, a renowned Belgian painter and botanist, celebrated for his watercolours of flowers at Malmaison, many of which were published as large, colour engravings. Nicknamed "the Raphael of flowers" he has been described as one of the greatest botanical illustrators of all time.
His 'Rosa Eglanteria' is regarded as one of the finest examples of early 19th century botanical studies. With intricate detail and vibrant petals this would brighten any wall with its eye-catching splash of colour.
The simple, cream wood frame (with glass) showcases the print perfectly.
Labelled with the Latin botanical name as well as the French name of the rose, the artist is acknowledged as PJ Redoute as is the engraver Langlois and the print works Imprimerie de Rémond.
Lovely, clean condition overall and ready to hang, there is some faint smudging to the bottom right corner of the picture that I have not been able to remove. But barely noticeable.
