A beautiful and authentic example of work by the late 19th/early 20th Century British artist Robert William Bates, this lovely oil painting depicts a tranquil river landscape, the river curving gently around a tree-filled bank. While swans glide by in the foreground, a kingfisher skims low to the surface and a man in a boat waits by the far bank. The reflections and shades of light are captured perfectly under a summer sky.  A peaceful English scene that draws the eye to the focal points of nature depicted at its finest.
The painting is in very good condition given its age. Encased in a decorative gilt surround, there are a few signs of wear to the edges as shown, commensurate with age.
