Francis E Jamieson (1895-1950) was an English painter who became obsessed with painting Highland landscapes after a holiday in the Scottish Highlands. He was under contract to a large department store to supply them with his paintings. He was keen to increase his sales and sell to a wider clientele so he started to sign his works with pseudonyms other than his own name. It worked and it is believed that Jamieson worked under at least 15 different pseudonym names on his paintings. He became one of the most prolific and successful artists of his time.
This painting dates from the early 20th Century and is entitled Killiecrankie (written in pencil by Jamieson on the reverse) and shows a mother and child returning home on a pathway in a beautiful Highland sunset. The depiction of light from the sun setting behing the mountains is incredible; this is, in my opinion, one of his best paintings for the colours he manages to capture so perfectly.
There is no frame to the canvas but it is nevertheless in excellent condition and is signed F E Jamieson in the bottom right hand corner.
This painting has been confirmed as original and authentic by a leading expert in F. E. Jamieson. I can supply a copy of the confirmation correspondence.
