An unusually pretty and quite compact laundry basket with glass top covering a beige and gold silk design, and clasped into place by four metal corner plates.  Gold braiding around the lid edges is all intact.  And it stands on elegant gold legs, as shown.  
The basket has been painted white on the main body, over the original dusky pink and gold colouring, very reminiscent of Lloyd Loom.  The interior is pink and the hinged lid is held in place by a fine chain, probably the original one.
An ornamental yet functional piece - almost too pretty to use!
